A Guest Post by the Wife of Gallery of Collectible Décor & Icons
I never expected Hello Kitty — the sweet, bow‑wearing queen of my childhood sticker empire — to show up dressed like she’s ready to pilot a giant mech suit and defend the galaxy. Yet here we are, unboxing the Bandai SD Ex-Standard Hello Kitty x RX-78-2 Gundam Figure Model Kit, and I swear I heard the Transformers theme song echoing in the background.
My husband says Gundam reminds him of Voltron. I say it reminds me of the Transformers I used to steal from my younger brother. Either way, this mashup hit me right in the nostalgia — and honestly, in the funny bone too.
But this time, something special happened. I didn’t just admire the figure. I built it myself.
And let me tell you… it was chaotic, impatient, exciting, and absolutely magical.
My first Hello Kitty item wasn’t a plush or a fancy collectible. It was stickers.
And not just one sheet — I had armies of Hello Kitty stickers.
I plastered them on:
If it had a flat surface, Hello Kitty was going on it.
Barbie was the star of my toy shelf, sure — but Hello Kitty was the star of my identity. She was cute, expressive, animated… and unlike Barbie, she didn’t have hair I could cut off in a moment of childhood curiosity and regret.
Because let me tell you something: Barbie’s hair does NOT grow back. Not even if you apologize. Not even if you promise to never do it again.
Hello Kitty, on the other hand? She stayed perfect. No hair. No drama. No accidental haircuts.
Just vibes.
I grew up a tomboy — not because I didn’t like girly things, but because my younger brother (born in 1981, me in 1980) was my only real playmate. My older siblings were too cool to hang out with us, so it was just me and him… and his Transformers.
He’d bring Optimus Prime. I’d bring Barbie. And we’d have battle royales that would make WWE look like a polite tea party.
Barbie didn’t stand a chance, but she fought bravely. Transformers had weapons, armor, and the ability to turn into trucks. Barbie had… high heels and emotional resilience.
Still, she held her own.
Sometimes Barbie won. Sometimes Transformers won. Sometimes we both got yelled at for breaking toys.
It was chaotic. It was ridiculous. It was childhood.
And honestly? Seeing Hello Kitty dressed as a Gundam brought all of that back — the laughter, the fights, the sibling bonding, and the era before my brother became, well… an asshole. (Love you, bro. But also… you know.)
When my husband opened the shipment and handed me the Hello Kitty x Gundam box, I didn’t know whether to squeal or salute.
Hello Kitty… In armor… With a beam saber… Looking like she’s ready to fight Decepticons, pilot Voltron, and still make it home in time for tea.
It’s absurd. It’s adorable. It’s everything I didn’t know I needed.
My husband loved it too — he’s a Voltron kid at heart, so anything with a giant robot hits him right in the nostalgia. For me, it was Transformers energy all the way.
This mashup feels like:
It’s the crossover I never asked for but absolutely adore.
Now here’s the part that surprised even me:
I built the Hello Kitty x Gundam model kit myself.
No help. No “Can you do this part for me?” No “I don’t get this piece.” Just me, the instructions, and a level of impatience that could power a small city.
I was:
My husband watched me with this proud, amused look — like he was seeing a little girl building her toy again. And honestly? That’s exactly how I felt.
Piece by piece, snap by snap, I wasn’t just building a model. I was rebuilding a memory.
It reminded me of:
And that — THAT — is what our store is about.
Bringing grown adults back to their childhood. Letting them feel that spark again. Letting them build something that makes them smile. Letting them reconnect with the kid they used to be.
This little armored Hello Kitty did exactly that for me.
Let’s be honest: I didn’t grow up watching Gundam. I didn’t know RX-78-2 from RX-anything. But this collectible still hit home — and here’s why:
1. Hello Kitty is timeless
She’s been around for 50 years and still looks exactly the same.
2. Gundam is legendary
Even if you didn’t watch it, you know it.
3. Crossovers are magic
They bring fandoms together. They spark conversations. They make collectors smile.
4. It represents childhood fusion
Barbie + Transformers Hello Kitty + Gundam Voltron + nostalgia It’s all connected.
5. It’s a perfect display piece
Cute enough for Hello Kitty fans. Cool enough for Gundam fans. Funny enough for people who love chaos.
When the shipment arrived at Gallery of Collectible Décor & Icons, I swear the boxes were glowing.
We opened them up and immediately started laughing.
My husband: “This is Voltron energy.” Me: “This is Transformers energy.” Both of us: “This is going on the blog.”
The colors are vibrant. The build is fun. The final figure is adorable and badass at the same time.
It’s the kind of collectible that makes you smile the moment you see it.

This little figure — this tiny armored Hello Kitty — brought back so many memories.
It reminded me of:
It’s funny how a collectible can do that. How something so small can make you feel so much.
Whether you grew up with Barbie, Hello Kitty, Transformers, Gundam, or Voltron… this mashup has a little piece of all of us.
And honestly? I hope it brings you the same smile it brought me.
